'I'm just staying in, and may be some time'

(after Captain Oates)

As we all live through these extraordinary times of constraint our thoughts turn to the ‘Idiot community’. All of those freelancers who are now struggling in a place of real uncertainty. We will do all we can to continue to offer paid opportunities to these talented and resourceful theatre makers.

At Told by an Idiot all our work comes out of some kind of restriction, our current show ‘The Strange Tale of Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel’ was created from the liberation of the performers not being able to speak. Responding to our current restriction of isolation, we have created a programme of activity that allows people to continue to engage with our work digitally.

As a company we thrive on spontaneity and will try to reflect this through a new and exciting season of projects. At the heart of our work lies a comic sensibility, and at the moment the search for humour seems an important and necessary one. We will continue to encourage, support, and provoke fellow theatre makers and engage with audiences in as diverse a way as possible. We will be adding to this page throughout the next few weeks, so keep checking back for updates.
