Annie Fitzmaurice was born in Knotty Ash, Liverpool.   

Training: Contemporary Dance - Laban Centre; Theatre - John Wright; Clown - Philippe Gaulier; Improvisation - Keith Johnstone.   

As founder and Artistic Director of Coal, award-winning Manchester theatre company she created Johnny Come Lately & The Fragility of X in association with the Royal Exchange Theatre, Not With That Hand in association with Unity Theatre (winning Spirit of the Fringe Award, META Award, nominated for Fringe First and Best Studio Production, Manchester Theatre Awards).

Annie is an Associate of Told by an Idiot and has been in their productions of And The Horse You Rode In On and Shoot Me In The Heart.

Theatre includes: Rock n Roll and Tom’s Midnight Garden (Library Theatre Manchester); Accidental Death Of An Anarchist (Bolton Octagon); Meeting Myself Coming Back (Soho Theatre); George's Marvellous Medicine(Birmingham Stage); Twelfth Night and Animal Farm (Northern Stage/Young Vic/international tour); Throwing Stones (Royal Court Upstairs).    

Television: two years as DS Karen Williams in Emmerdale; LOWDOWN(Comedy Blap); Coronation Street; Doctors; Waterloo Road; The Royal Today; The Street; The Royal; Powers; Cold Feet; A Good Thief; Holby City; Brookside; Extremely Dangerous; Body Story; The Bill and 2 series of Welsh comedy drama Cerddwn Ymlaen.  

Directing: The Mandate (Rose Theatre, Rose Bruford); Dance With The Cows…  (Told by an Idiot/Royal Exchange intergenerational project).  

Other work includes: choreography, movement direction, writing & producing short films, co-devising radio sitcom pilot, and leading workshops in devising, clown and improvisation, most recently for WYP, Young Vic Genesis Project and JMK Award.
