Idiot Films

Film has been the single biggest influence on the work of Told by an Idiot for the last three decades. Our shows have been influenced and inspired by some of the worlds greatest filmmakers including Charlie Chaplin, Federico Fellini, Luis Buñuel, Spike Lee, Jane Campion, Ernst Lubitsch, Alfred Hitchcock, Céline Sciamma, Emir Kusturica and Alejandro Jodorowsky among many others.

The development of our aesthetic has been provoked by the visual storytelling of the movies, and if cinema is the place of dreams, for us theatre is its own robust world of make believe. A place where nothing is as it seems and the only rule is don’t be boring.
