Taught by an Idiot Drama Online - Devised Theatre Workshop We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with Drama Online on this brand new digital workshop series. Led by Artistic Director Paul Hunter and supported by a range of associate artists, viewers will be offered a unique insight into Told by an Idiot's theatremaking process through a variety of physical and verbal exercises based around a collection of key themes including play, rhythm, improvisation, clown, Commedia dell’arte and collaborative writing. This highly practical and engaging digital product is a perfect study aid for any student engaging with devised theatre. The imaginative and surprising approach to creativity will prove invaluable to anyone curious about exploring spontaneity and what it means to be alive on stage. The course is structured to build progressively with each session, but participants can also choose to watch individual sessions as they prefer. The episodes vary in length, giving participants the flexibility to engage in a way that suits them. They can follow along and try the exercises in real time, pause for deeper exploration, or watch continuously from start to finish. The episodes can also serve as inspiration and a practical resource for teachers when developing their lesson plans. Most of the exercises do not require any resources, but a few exercises use tennis balls and broom sticks (however bamboo sticks or similar can be used). The workshop series will launch in September 2026 on Drama Online. It is available for educational institutions to purchase either on a perpetual access basis or on subscription.
