Sonya Smullen is a Performance Designer and maker from Glasgow based in London. From 2019-2022, She was granted the Scottish Dewar Arts Award, which enabled her to pursue a BA in Theatre Design at Wimbledon College of Arts. Her practice integrates text and devised work while forging meaningful collaborations with artists, makers, and musicians from diverse disciplines. In 2021, she furthered her Fine Arts Stage and Costume education as an exchange student at the Weissensee Academy of Art in Berlin, igniting her passion for European theatre. 

With an interest in devised and site-specific performance, her curiosity for theatre lies in investigating how we tell stories and what perspectives we share. Throughout her process, she seeks to engage playfully with a commitment to sharing politically and socially aware work. 

Recent design credits include: Listen to the Forest (Tramway, Roxy Assembly); Speed Queen (Museum of Comedy); Lose the Path, Find Your Way (Arts Depot, Southwark Playhouse and School Tour); Four Felons and a Funeral (Birmingham Hippodrome, The Pleasance London, Mercury Theatre, North Wall Arts Centre).
