Collaborative Theatre Making MA/MFA
*Auditions for 2018/19 academic year take place on Monday 9th July 2018 - find out more here*
Told by an Idiot has joined forces with Rose Bruford College to develop and deliver an MA/MFA course in Collaborative Theatre Making. As recognised leaders in this form, the year-long course is led, curated and mentored by Told by an Idiot for the academic year 2017/18.
The course is aimed at those who want to explore the development of ensemble performance and make theatre that is innovative, imaginative and dynamic. It is specifically for those who want to make collaborative theatre, perform, write, direct, and improvise. The programme takes a physical approach to making theatre and working with text. Continually explored through performance, the ensemble will be guided, directed and mentored in making and touring their own work.
Paul Hunter, Artistic Director of Told by an Idiot: “This MA, created and curated by Told by an Idiot, will give intensive access and insight into one of the UK's most dynamic and ground-breaking theatre companies, touching on all areas of devised theatre from directing to performing, writing to composing. Participants will gain a unique understanding of Told by an Idiot’s practice, whilst at the same time engaging with a wider spectrum of current collaborative theatre making in the UK.
What will set this MA apart from other courses currently on offer is the quality, experience and diverse range of practitioners teaching on the course. It will also, across the year, exactly mirror the work that the Idiots are currently producing. This will enable the students to share space and be provoked by extraordinary performers, musicians, dancers, designers etc; offering them the opportunity to be part of the UK theatre ecology at the same as experiencing a genuinely enquiring laboratory."
Artists teaching on the course in 2017/2018:
Paul Hunter (Artistic Director, Told by an Idiot), John Wright (co-founder and Artistic Associate of Told by an Idiot, internationally renowned director and teacher, and author of acclaimed book 'Why Is That So Funny?), Stephen Harper (Performer, Director and TBAI Artistic Associate), Annie Fitzmaurice (Writer, Performer and TBAI Artistic Associate), Little Soldier and The Wardrobe Ensemble, alongside other leading theatre makers and companies.
