Associates of Birmingham Repertory Theatre

In March 2020 Told by an Idiot were announced as Associates of Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Any news regarding the associateship will be posted here. We are very much looking forward to a successful and fruitful partnership with one of the most exciting venues in the country.

'As Told by an Idiot's Artistic Director and a Birmingham boy, born and bred, I truly believe that The Rep is one of the UK’s great theatres. Under Sean Foley's Artistic Directorship the Rep will embody many of the values that lie at the heart of Told by an Idiot's work: a true comic sensibility, a commitment to genuinely theatrical entertainment, and the idea that theatre can be both experimental and popular whilst remaining accessible to all.

Told by an Idiot's relationship with Birmingham Rep is a history of creative collaboration. Following two co productions, several touring shows, and working across all three spaces, the Idiots are delighted to now be invited to become an Associate Company.

As an Associate Company we are committing to making work that will connect with a Birmingham audience, at the same time as reflecting universal themes. Through our unique and Internationally recognised participation programme Taught by an Idiot, we have worked extensively across the Midlands with a variety of different community groups already, and will bring these strong connections to this new partnership, developing and building on The Rep’s own nationally recognised Creative Learning offer.

Everyone at Told by an Idiot looks forward to an ongoing creative, provocative, and stimulating relationship with The Rep and the people of the great City of Birmingham'
