Taught by an Idiot Workshops Breaking Bard We have bursaries for FREE PLACES available for artists living in Wales and also artists under 25 years old. Please email [email protected] if you would like to apply. Led by renowned Shakespeare performer and regular Idiot, Sophie Russell*, this online workshop is an opportunity for performers, writers, theatremakers (or anyone who likes to play!) to hone their skills in developing material - using a character of your choice from Shakespeare as your inspiration. Together, as an online group, characters will be interrogated and imagined in contemporary settings through a series of improvisation exercises (with split second props and costumes choices sourced from whatever you have lying around!) How does Hamlet do in a job interview? Could Lady in Waiting use some life coaching? What's the back-story to King Lear's fool? All you need to bring to the Zoom room is a Shakespearean character that interests you and be familiar with their journey within the play they are from. Before the workshop you will be asked to fill in an anonymous dating profile about your character as a starting point. N.B we do not guarantee to find you a match! Join us online to break down the Bard and get your devising juices flowing. 25th June 2023 10am-1pm *As well as working with Told by an Idiot, Sophie Russell has spent years finding the comic joy in many productions at the RSC and Shakespeare’s Globe; she has played the Fool in King Lear, Bottom in Midsummer Nights’ Dream, Malvolio in 12th Night, Richard III in Richard III and has just finished finding the absurdity in Shakespeare’s bloodiest show as Marcus in Titus Andronicus. She is also an artistic associate and teacher for Spymonkey Theatre and teaches at LAMDA and for The Globe education department.
