Continuing our ongoing Trustee changes in 2021, we are thrilled to announce two further appointments to the Told by an Idiot board: Helen O'Hanlon (film director and writer) and Matt Hassall (theatre director and practitioner). Both were recruited through an open application process.

After starting her career in the music industry with organisations such as Sony Music Publishing and EMI, Helen now runs her own film company for which she writes and directs new work, some of which have premiered at The TriBeCa and New York Film Festivals and been shortlisted for a BAFTA award. Matt, originally from Manchester, has followed Told by an Idiot's work since our shows at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. He is an Associate Artist of the National Youth Theatre and has worked at LAMDA and Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts as well as being co-founder of an artist collective who explore the use and impact of creativity for positive well-being.

"We are delighted to welcome Helen O’Hanlon and Matt Hassall to our board of trustees. Helen’s experience, dynamism and energy will be a great asset. As someone who has driven and created her own projects her insights and knowledge will, I am sure, prove invaluable. Matt Hassall engaged with the company in his time at the Royal Exchange when we produced Arnold Ridley’s classic ‘The Ghost Train’. His inspiring work with young creatives, and his commitment to what theatre can be and who gets to make it, chimes well with the Idiot ethos."
